Modern Home in Old WesTbury, Long Island, New York
This is an extensive renovation and addition to a contemporary single family residence built in 1979. The deteriorated exterior of the "cedar box" style house has been replaced with a Viennese Modern stucco facade evoking designwork of Otto Wagner and the Wiener Werkstatte from the turn of the 20th Century. Large windows have been installed to take advantage of the views of the mature landscaping. More room was also needed for the growing family so existing terrace space within the "box" has been captured and a new rear stair, garage and guest bedroom wing added. The garage facade has been played up since it's what you see from the street.
The interior of the house has also been completely redesigned. Veneer panelling with inlaid patterns has been installed in the Entry, Dining Room and Home Theater. F/S designed a stair railing with stainless and brass supports and a mahogany handrail to replace the original steel pipe railing. On the first floor, the flooring is now bird's eye maple strip flooring with mahogany borders. The Kitchen has custom cherry cabinetry with lots of cubbies for display and stainless steel details. The project includes extensive sitework & landscape design.
