GOTHIC TENNIS PAVILION, WESTERN PA
This open pavilion is built of white oak using traditonal heavy timber construction. It's designed as a shady place to watch the action on the partially sunken tennis court located in the extensive gardens of this large estate.
The roof, covered with very thick ramdom Vermont slate traditionally called freak slate, matches the roof of the existing collegiate gothic house designed in 1929 by Benno Janssen. The base of the pavilion and the steps are Indiana limestone. The tennis court has a synthetic grass surface.
