The inspiration for this project was the collection of Japanese antiques owned by the clients, including the carved transoms incorporated into the design, as well as the classic 1920s details in this original Emery Roth designed building. The floors and base cabinets are cherry and the countertops are schist from a small quarry in upstate New York. The upper cabinets are the original 1929 steel units which have been stripped of their paint. The aluminum conservatory is an Amdega unit imported from England. Photography by Gridley & Graves |
